Down’s syndrome is a life-long condition which occurs because a person’s cells include an extra chromosome 21. People with Down’s syndrome may have associated learning difficulties and delayed personal development.

This training course provides an introduction into the syndrome, how it may affect people, historical and modern approaches to the syndrome and how people can be supported.

The aims of this training course are for learners to;

• Understand what Down’s syndrome is and how it can affect people in different ways
• Understand the history of Down’s syndrome and how attitudes have changed as knowledge and awareness has grown
• Understand how the effects of Down’s syndrome can change throughout a person’s life
• Understand the importance of promoting the skills, positivity and diversity of people with Down’s syndrome
