Smith Magenis syndrome is a genetic disability which can affect speech, language skills, behaviour challenges and sleeping disorders and can include a spectrum of associated learning disabilities.

This training course providers learners with the skills and knowledge required to provide support to young people and adults with Smith Magenis syndrome and understand how the condition can affect different people in different ways.

The aims of this training course are for learners to:

• Understand the principles of supporting people with Smith Magenis syndrome
• Understand what Smith Magenis syndrome is, how it can affect people and how this can be presented
• Understand the potential changing behaviours and needs of people with Smith Magenis syndrome
• Understand how to provide support to people with Smith Magenis syndrome, their families and other supporters
