Description and objective: A detailed look at chromatic dispersion and PMD in optical fibres from the fundamentals of light travelling through media to the effects of dispersion on signals in fibre optic systems. Primarily a theory course, areas are covered that are normally glossed over at college or on other courses, for example - what is phase velocity/group velocity and group index versus refractive index , coherence of light, ... The course is aimed at graduates and interested technicians. Although an advanced course we pride ourselves in delivering the issues such that technicians and managers working in fibre optic or technical laboratories will not be at a disadvantage to graduates.
