CMI Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in First Line Management

These qualifications are designed for junior managers, supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity. They provide an introduction to the skills, roles and responsibilities of management.

These qualifications consist of units based on the national standards for management and leadership which you study and then are assessed via an assignment. The unit titles are as follows – see below for details of how many you will study depending on whether you select Award, Certificate or Diploma – they are each level 3 but range in size, i.e. number of units that need to be completed.

Group A units:

• Introduction to fist line management

The CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management is designed to give you all the key skills and competencies you’ll need to become an effective supervisor or first line manager.

To achieve this diploma you must complete all units from Group A and one or two units from Group B.

The CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management is a shorter qualification designed to strengthen and develop your skills and knowledge in a specific area of management.

To achieve this certificate you must complete 2 units from either of the groups listed above.

The CMI Level 3 Award in First Line Management is a shorter qualification designed to introduce you to management. It can also be used to strengthen and develop specific skills and knowledge.

To achieve this award you must complete 1 unit from either of the groups listed above.

Learning is supported and guided by your personal tutor who will speak with you on a monthly basis. You will benefit from Studying Membership of the Chartered Management Institute which gives access to a wealth of world class resources (Management Direct). Here you will start your learning journey supplemented by your own internet and hard copy searches plus materials provided by your tutor.

Assessment is usually through a practical work-based written assignment (2,000 – 2,500 words) – one per unit. Support is available on how to write and reference assignments.
